LET Reviewer: TIPS How to Pass the LET exam
LET English Specialization
Tip of the Day: How to Review for the Specialization Part?
(Note: I’ll be using code-mixing here to avoid internal hemorrhage, and to do away from Grammar Nazis as well😂)
Majority of those sending me PMs, sa majorship talaga sila nag-fail. And it breaks my heart to hear stories especially un konti na lang sana eh pasado na😞or those na ilang beses na nag-take pero di pa rin pinalad 😢
But why is that? Are we ‘bobo’ and other majors are more ‘matalino’ than us? Definitely not! (Sapakin natin magsasabi niyan😡) Well, let’s just face it! English majorship is one of the hardest, if not the hardest specializations in LET. It is the reason why only few English majors made it to the list of topnotchers. Ginalingan kasi masyado ng Board😂😂😂
One thing, our specialization is very broad. Literature pa lang eh information overload na! How about the other subjects? Structure of English, Linguistics, Stylistics, ESL, Research, and the list goes on...
So to avoid my brain from exploding😂, I used smart ways in studying our majorship. And guess what? I’m sharing these tips with you NOW!
1. Study smart. With the sheer volume of information to review, how can we know kung alin dyan ang lalabas sa 150-item test? You don’t have to study everything, just focus on the concepts that occurred frequently in the previous LET.
2. Analysis over Memorizing. LET questions are designed to test our critical thinking skills. Questions are seldomly repeated, but there are concepts na favorite itanong ni Board. Hence, build a strong foundation of the English language by trying to analyze the concept behind each question. For example, try answering this question:
Which of the following plural nouns is an unmarked form?
A. students (CA) B. bacteria C. women D. sheep
Pwedeng next LET ang question naman eh baligtad:
The following plural nouns are unmarked forms except?
A. students B. fungi c. tables d. flowers
Nakita mo agad un students un ang sinagot mo kasi un ang naalala mo sa reviewer. Kahit na gusto ka na tuklawin ni letter B🙄 Kaya to answer it correctly dapat familiar ka sa concept ng marked/unmarked form. Gets?
3. Invest in reliable reviewers. There are many reviewers (softcopy and hardcopy) out there. So invest your time and money wisely. Piliin ang reviewers na meaty when it comes to analyzing English lessons. I personally recommend PNU reviewer for understanding key concepts, and Lorimar Book 2 for practice tests. Maganda rin ang actual board exam questions na mabibili sa tapat ng PRC (sometimes also sold online). But medyo costly and at the same time the answer keys are not reliable so you have to research for the correct answers on your own.
4. Teach what you know. In my case, advantage na nagtuturo na ako when I took the LET last March. There are many questions that I’ve answered correctly because I taught them to my students. But if you want to focus muna sa review, that’s fine. You can just pretend, kunwari nagtuturo ka na and mga kapatid mo or imaginary friend mo ang students mo (Okay lang magmukhang tanga ng ilang buwan basta pumasa). Mas mataas kasi ang recall when you say and write everything (Pasok Edgar Dale!😂)
5. Find a Study Buddy or Do Group Study. “Two heads are better than one.” Advantage din kasi may alam ang iba na di mo alam. Basta make sure review ang gagawin at hindi tsisman or ligawan. 😁😇
